A New Direction

There have been a lot of changes in ISOMERIC's life over the past eighteen months. Not the least of these was the 'Black Swan' event on the 19th of October 2011, 23 years to the day after the stock market crash that changed my life in 1987; in many ways for the better.

Over the next few months the focus of this blog will change as I expand my strategic consulting activities to plan and launch a new venture. My aim is to merge legacy and social (in both senses of the word), technologies to bring a new community perspective to global publishing.

Stay tuned! - May, 2011

A Perfect Storm – A Deadly Slide

A Perfect Storm – A Deadly Slide

There is a tide in the affairs of men which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune. Omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and in miseries. Wise words from Brutus through the pen of young William. In terms of economic and civic stability it is clear that we are witness to a seemingly endless ebb tide. There is a solution. The first step is to understand that there is a time when deficit spending is not just necessary, ...

Estates Without Boundaries

Back in 2001 after the bubble burst, according to many pundits the Internet was simply a 'flash in the pan'. Interesting to see the companies that are included in the world's top 100 list today. Fascinating to contemplate the future.

A Change of Direction for Apple

Coming soon to a MacBook near you... Touch screens? It's logical. If so it will certainly make me feel better about the productivity loss after 'upgrading' to Lion and paying for a product that panders to the regular consumer rather than the power user.

Why ISOMERIC?

I registered the domain 'ISOMERIC.com' in June 1995. At the time it made sense. This was the name of my company back then, focused on corporate turn-arounds and adding 'grey hair' to start ups. As an external force applied to a company (read 'compound'), with the aim of changing the properties irrevocably 'ISOMERIC' was a logical name.

In 1995 I was in Chicago. Among other projects at that time, I was helping a group of recent graduates found one of the early ISP's. The 'Kids', like many others then, were inspired by Mark Andreessen, Mark having recently left the UI Urbana-Champaign campus (just down the road from Chicago), to focus on Mosaic and start Netscape. In retrospect, although I registered a number of additional valuable domains, back in 1995 I had the pick of the crop. ISOMERIC was probably not a sensible priority!: More...

Life, The Universe, and…

Growing up in the English countryside there was little light pollution. As a child, I'd camp out in the garden (back yard in American), lie on my back and watch the Milky Way rise and transition. Then, from the very first (1978) BBC Radio episode of 'Hitchhiker's', with Peter Jones as my 'Guide' I've been drawn to look ever closer.

Watching with the naked eye evolved to crouching looking through an eyepiece, then to sitting with computers, computerized mounts, multiple scopes and imagers.
Oddly enough, M42 in Orion, remains my favorite subject. Maybe '42' is the answer. I just wish that I knew the question!
